Living in a Propaganda Society
America is incredible at displaying our past heroics. As a child, I grew up believing that our great country was responsible for bringing balance and justice to our world. America, being seen as the voice of reason. Only resulting to violence when provoked first. I remember Columbus and MLK day. I remember learning of the peace we brought to the land. I remember hearing the tales of the indigenous struggles. I remember the stories of the white man saving the day. I remember hearing of a black southern pastor using his words to bring justice. I wasn't sure what he was fighting for, but I knew we had to respect him. I remember he died. I wasn't sure why or how, but that he was important to honor. But as I got older, the puzzle pieces began to fall into place. There was no peace that we brought to the indigenous people's land. WE were the struggles. WE were the violence.
